Acerca del libro
The garden of Iford Manor, near Bath, was created in the early twentieth century by the architect Harold Peto. He not only created a garden in the traditional sense, but he also installed in the grounds a large number of ancient works of art which he had collected in Italy and elsewhere. These works of art, when viewed in the garden context, provide the visitor with an extraordinary experience.
Mr Peto's Amazing Garden offers a visual record of all the major works of art which Peto incorporated into his masterpiece of design. The book provides well over 100 illustrations of pieces which date from classical times to the twentieth century. Peto collected statues, columns, carved panels, metalwork, architectural fragments, and a host of other unusual and remarkable artefacts. Many of these would have been lost but for his diligence in preserving them for our eyes today.
