Acerca del libro
Two hundred photographs from Fort Wayne, Indiana-based photographer John Gevers’ 30 years of image making are now available in a high quality, hardbound coffee table book. The robust 185-page book, 'focus,' features Gevers’ work from New Zealand, the Mediterranean, and the United States. Included are photographs from his exhibit, 'Paris, La Ville-Lumière,' and a section dedicated to his portraiture that reveals the diversity of those who call the Midwest ‘home.’ Photographs from Fort Wayne and environs infuse the internationally flavored book with a regional taste. All images in this photography book are rendered on the finest pearl-finish photo paper using archival inks.
Rooted in the Heartland of the United States, Gevers is known both for capturing the splendor of the world and for revealing a person’s essence and spirit in portrait photography.
"To breathe in and out with my subjects, to get to know their motivations, and then to capture a moment that reflects their true selves defines me as both humanist and spiritualist. It’s the light within each of us that I seek to reveal in portraiture. Finding and recording that spark is the most intimate acquaintance with light a photographer can know. The ability to see that spark in each of us is informed by observing he way light plays in the natural world. From a certain slant of light, much can be learned.”
Gevers began writing stories and making Kodachrome images as a boy and honed his skills at the Indiana University School of Journalism. Gevers has been awarded numerous Telly Awards for excellence in both image capture and in video editing. He was awarded an Indiana Arts Commission Individual Artist Grant which began his mentorship under acclaimed photographers Peter and David Turnley, who also hail from Fort Wayne. His work is held both in corporate and in private collections and available for purchase at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.
