Acerca del libro
On May 16th 2015, Tyree Brown was in a car accident in which she received an incomplete spinal cord injury, leading to paralysis. Every day she faces the struggles that come with adjusting to her new situation; however, she finds strength in her family, religion, and continuing art practice. My documentation explores her recovery and identity, while her drawings reveal progress and portray the rehabilitation of her past self, and the creation of a new one.
Having grown up with a brother who also was paralyzed in a car accident, I’ve been left with questions since his passing about how one copes with a life-changing event. Working with Tyree I’ve witnessed not only her growth physically; but also her determination and faith as she confronts a future she could have never imagined. It is daunting to think that one moment can alter your path so significantly—however, I believe it is by no means the end of one’s life. Our collaboration is one that Tyree and I hope will further contribute to this notion.
