Acerca del libro
In early 2014 I made my third visit to Australia and stayed for three weeks in the small town of Gembrook in Victoria.
Located 54 kilometers south east of Melbourne's Central Business District, within the Shire of Cardinia, Gembrook has a population of just over 2,100 people. Originally settled in 1873, the main economic activities were farming and timber. In 1900 the Gembrook railway line was opened enabling day trippers to travel from Melbourne and timber and produce to be shipped back to Melbourne.
The narrow gauge railway now operates as a heritage railway known as "Puffing Billy" and attracts visitors to the town, which today is generally regarded as a suburb of Melbourne, just an hour and a half drive from the city.
Before our trip, I did a little bit of research about Gembrook. Most of the images I found on the Internet focussed on "Puffing Billy" and there were very few of the town itself, but the few that there were prompted me to photograph another aspect of the topography of this small community.
These photographs are my impressions of the town's main thoroughfare - "Main Street". All the images were made either on Main Street itself or within a few yards walk.
