The Dancing Houses represent a small collection of past paintings from various shows that I did on the architecture of Trinidad & Tobago. For over 10 years I have portrayed Trinidad and Tobago’s rich architectural heritage with rhythmic vitality using a combination of skewed perspective and vibrant colors. These small architectural paintings are given a soul and life of their own, much like the larger Carnival inspired paintings of which they also appear. The term Dancing Houses was given as a reaction to people first seeing them, the swaying lines and bright colors; all deliberate by intent, as I wanted these humble houses to dance along with the carnival. Some have remarked that they can even feel and hear the music as the perspective of the buildings dance off to the horizon.

Brian Wong Won
brianwongwon Miami, Florida, USA

Brian Wong Won is a Trinidadian born artist known for his bright colors, expressionistic compressions of space and distortions of architectural space. His subjects tend to be Trinidad Carnival and the local vintage architecture; he works primarily in the water-based medium of Gouache.
He has been noted by both collectors and critics to be the only one to fully capture the spirit and feeling of the Carnival festivities via his vivid palette and expressive playful use of perspective. His Carnival paintings tend to be satirical, expressively tongue and cheek and very detailed, which also carries into his architectural subjects, of which he is also well know for.
Brian was born in Trinidad in 1970, educated at St. Mary’s College in Port-of-Spain, until 1987 where he left to study art in the USA. He obtained both an AA in Graphic Design and a BFA in Painting & Art History. Brian was also a graphic designer and art teacher and now lives in Florida,
