This photo book contains photos from five generations of my family including several photos that are more than hundred years old. It contains photos of my grandfathers together with a few images from my mother’s and my wife’s family. The emphasis is on “Opa” which is a Dutch endearing term for Grandfather.
The message of this book is very simple: we are all made from the genes we inherited from our parents and grandparents; we were all shaped by the village we came from; where we were brought up; the country we grew up in. Conventional genealogists research important facts such as births, marriages, deaths, occupations, the times and circumstances in which people lived. Genetic genealogists analyze the DNA of people to define where they belong in the tree of human relations.
A photo book like this one contributes to each of these interests. This book primarily designed for my grandchildren may also be of interest to family members, brothers, cousins, nieces, or even friends. It may also be of interest to other, non-family members, who may find it useful as a template for making a visual portrait of their own family history.
