Acerca del libro
Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, located 150 miles north of San Francisco, is one of only a handful of lighthouses in the U.S. still active as U.S. Aids to Navigation. Like most lighthouses, Point Cabrillo's Fresnel Lens was shuttered for more than more than two decades, then restored in 1999 and re-opened in 2000. Owned by the U.S. Coast Guard, it is maintained by Flotilla 87, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, a civilian group of men and women who keep it in operation 24 hours a day. When the lighthouse originally went into operation in 1909, the lighthouse was a kerosene oil lamp. Today, a tiny 1,000 watt halogen bulb is visible 15 miles out to sea. The lighthouse, once part of the U.S. Lighthouse Service is now part of a California State Park, Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park.
