Special thanks to Emily (Franicevich) Derum, KK Salamin, Elena (aka Lena) Michelle, Amanda Cocciolone, Traci Gonzalez, Jacquie Siino, and Tim Spillane for submitting stories.
It's so funny, language. A bunch of squiggly lines, each with a bit of meaning. When etched together, those squiggly lines become pictures in one's mind and feelings in one's heart. Thanks for squiggling everybody! It means a lot to all who were touched by Zach, and all who carry a piece of him with them.
While these stories by no means represent an exhaustive collection of memories of Zach, they're a pretty good starting point. As you read, I think you'll see a bit of his complexity emerge. Many remember him for his playful side, and another theme is his sage advice. He was the life of the party, though often holding the strings behind the scenes like a puppeteer (and then sometimes being on stage when inspiration struck, as Tim masterfully illustrates).
He was gentle and warm to his girlfriend (and just as nervous as the rest of us about 'meeting the parents.'). He was loyal to his friends, even if that meant getting beat up through no fault of his own. And he was absolutely one of the mad ones, and he burned, burned, burned like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars.
Those of us who were close to him still think of him often. Those of us who got to know him well still take some of life's habits and even little phrases from him. Whether we're wishing another to "take care," or we're planning our next practical joke, he lives on.
Those of us who have seen him in dreams are grateful to hear that he's okay, and reassured by his words. We hope to meet him again someday.
