Abby is a goose with a deformed wing that lives on Assateague Island in Virginia. She grew up with four brothers, but she was never able to swim as well as they could, nor could she fly. When they grew up and winter came, her brothers flew south with her parents, leaving her alone on the island. Then one day Abby hears a cry for help, and finds another goose with a deformed wing that needs her help. Despite her limitations, Abby’s heroic courage saves the goose and her expected goslings.
Author AJ Russo’s words flow as smoothly as the warm spring breeze when the geese gather for their yearly reunion. Children will love the heroic Abby who overcomes her limitations for the sake of her new friend. Parents will appreciate the lessons to be learned by this gently told tale. Rich illustrations and simple prose make AJ Russo’s children’s book a perfect bedtime read. Readers who enjoy ABBY will also want to read AEROBELLA, coauthored by AJ Russo and Myra Derbyshire, with illustrations by Mary Alice Baumgardner. Very highly recommended.
