Acerca del libro
This is the story of a young couple (Carol's parents), who fell in love in Hill End NSW in 1932. The young lady, Lorraine (Laurie) Goodwin, was a 4th generation Hill End resident, and the young man, Robert (Bob) Lincoln, had grown up in Sydney and had been working in the truck/automotive industry. However, due to the Big Depression pre World War 2, and the general slowing up of business, Bob was retrenched along with many other workers at that time. In 1931 he and a cousin decided to "seek their fortune" on the Turon River, Hill End, which unfortunately proved unsuccessful, but in 1932 Bob made a 2nd trip back to Hill End and it was during this trip that he met Lorraine and they fell in love. Their romance unfolds in letters written by Bob to Lorraine, and diary entries written by Lorraine at the same time. There are also letters written by Bob to Lorraine from Guadalcanal in 1935 and 1941, when he was sent there by a Sydney Mining Syndicate to check out a mining venture.
Through photos and text, the book also covers the building (by Bob) of the family home "Kirra"; their marriage; and their lives living in Hill End with their 2 young daughters, Wendy and Carol. The book also opens a little "window" into life as it was in Hill End back in the 1930's/1940's and beyond.
