In the summer of 2012, artist Brian Cooper went to a local book store and documented all the books available on the shelf in the section labeled Physics/ Cosmology. There were 28. He then recreated the height, width and depth of each book in plywood. He made paintings on the wood inspired by the books’ original covers. He also painted the original information on the books’ spine on the side of each wood panel.
Brian Cooper was born in San Francisco and currently lives with his wife, artist Susan Logoreci, in Los Angeles. He earned his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and his MFA from the University of Southern California. His work has been exhibited at several galleries in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Milwaukee, Austin, Houston and Philadelphia. He has also had work included in shows at The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, The Tucson Museum of Contemporary Art, Santa Monica Museum of Art, The Vincent Price Museum of Art and The University of California Riverside. His work has been featured in national and international publications like “Beautiful Decay”, “Juxtapoz”, “New American Paintings”, “Artweek”, “Artillery”, Spain’s “Rojo Magazine”, and France’s “Le Monde Diplomatique”. Cooper has also been interviewed by “Cantanker” art magazine from Austin, TX and the French art blog “According to Proust”. His work was also included in the L.A. Weekly’
