A journey from Weardale to the Garonne in a Morris Minor Cabriolet provided Duncan Davis with opportunities to meet people and photograph the varied landscape of rural France. The Morris, laden with the two loves of his life, his wife Diane and a drum kit, performed faultlessly during the 2400 mile journey (and so did the drum kit). The purpose of the journey was to play skiffle music in the open air French markets with a Geordie skiffle band called ‘Earl Grey and the Charwallahs.’ This eccentric group of musicians stayed for a couple of weeks at ‘La Bartasse’ a haven for Bohemian entertainers, artists and thinkers. From the salt-makers of the Vendée to the fruit pickers of the Garonne,
hop aboard the Morris for a pictorial journey on the minor roads of France.
