A mysterious and private world, the garden of Ninfa has intrigued visitors since its creation in the late 1920s. Three generations of the Caetani family developed the garden in the ruins of a medieval town. Gretchen Kromer's black and white photographs, made during the fall and winter months of 2000-2005, evoke the spirit of this extraordinary place. Ninfa and its surroundings illustrate the diverse ways people have interacted with the environment in this part of Italy over the centuries.
