On August 3 Marianne & Julie flew on American Airlines from New York City to Buenos Aires, arriving on Sunday August 4. They spent 6 days and 5 nights in the “Paris of South America.”
Argentina is an interesting country. 40 million people reside in a very large1 million square miles with 12 million of them living in greater Buenos Aires. The country has a long history of political unrest. Today mortgage rates are 35% and the exchange rate for their currency on the black market is as weak as 8 to 1 with an official exchange rate of 5 to 1. In 2001 they elected 5 Presidents in 1 month. Argentina boasts the highest number of psychiatrists per capita and cosmetic surgery rates second only to the United States.
And maybe all that adds to Buenos Aires’ charm. The city, a cosmopolitan beauty, is famous for inventing the Tango and for its First Lady in the mid century, Eva Perón.
