Kalaw, a beautiful colonial hill town in Shan state of central Burma is surrounded by numerous ethnic and tribal villages of Palaung, Pa-O, Intha, Danu, Taung-yo, Bamar and other communities. Weaving traditional design and color of clothing is a part of preserving their identity and pride. Known for their hospitality, the people toil hard to maintain their livelihood. Cut off from the civilization of the modern world, agriculture continues to be the single largest source of income. Mostly Buddhists by religion, Christians and Spirit worshippers also dominate largely in the valley.
Devoid of tourist facilities, travelers from all over the world find their homes in the Monasteries, Long Houses and timeless hill tribe villages in the scenic mountains.
