The Tharp Farm

More than a hundred acres of God's earth, more than a million acres of God's love.
In this home Vernon and I raised six children. For us it was always more than a house, more than a farm. It was the glue that held our family together, and the love for the land was surpassed only by the love for our family.

In compiling this book in the summer of my 88th year, I pass on to future generations my love for the garden. I hope I have made the world a bit more beautiful and better because I have lived in it. With every passing year I place more value on relationships and find being with loved ones and good friends more emotionally uplifting.
When you are happy in the garden, you bring happiness to others.

Dear Grace Lenore Drumheller Tharp,

Your life, marriage, garden, and book are an inspiration!
You have produced a true masterpiece, which is as manifold as the petals of one of your glorious blooms: This book, your words, your spirit, wisdom, flowers, landscape, and equally exquisite photographs celebrate jewels of the earth that you have nurtured, protected, polished, and preserved. I am grateful that you found a way to share your garden and your life with the world, including me.
It was by accident that I found you. Today, September 15th, I recalled the words of another Lenore Drumheller, a former professor at Pratt Institute when I was a student there from 1969-1973. I have always lamented the loss of so many potential trees and flora, seemingly thousands, as nature's seeds blanket the land every year. Lenore explained the excess abundance of a beloved maple tree's seeds this way: "Nature overproduces to ensure survival."
I decided to look for her this afternoon and found you. Thank you, Lenore, for leading me to Grace Lenore. Thank you, Grace Lenore, for a wonderful Autumn Adventure and embrace of all the seasons!
