The Amazing Maasai Ultra 2011, Kenya's first and only ultra marathon, raised scholarship funds to send 20 talented but financially needy Maasai girls to high school. Building on that success, the Maasai communities of Laikipia North in Kenya, with the assistance of U.S.-based 501c3 non-profit organization Amazing Maasai Girls Project and title sponsor Assured Alliance, hosted The Assured Alliance Amazing Maasai Ultra 2012, a 21 kilometer half marathon, 42 kilometer marathon, and 75 kilometer ultra marathon on September 29, 2012, and significantly surpassed scholarship funds raised from 2011, further demonstrating to the young women of the local communities the impact of education, empowerment, and athletics.
This book is a photographic chronicle of the race, and the 236 runners from 15 countries who came together to promote the cause of girls' education in Kenya. This book is also a collection of stunning wildlife and landscape images that illustrate that The Assured Alliance Amazing Maasai Ultra 2012 is not just a unique race, but also an adventure drawing runners from across the globe. The Assured Alliance Amazing Maasai Ultra 2012 photo book is being sold at cost plus a US$10.00 mark-up, which is earmarked to fund scholarships for highly-qualified but financially-challenged girls to attend the St. Francis Girls' Secondary School, Kimanjo Mixed School and Il-Polei Mixed School in Kenya's Rift Valley.
The Amazing Maasai Girls Project is in the process of organizing The Amazing Maasai Ultra 2013's half, full and ultramarathons, scheduled for September 28, 2012. For more information: www.amazingmaasaiultra.org
