Though the cover partially shows a Brooklyn landmark from Coney Island this is a personal project (ongoing) of what Brooklyn means to me, having photographed here since 2007.

This includes photographing on the fringes of the few remaining New York industrial areas in Gowanus, Williamsburg, Red Hook, Greenpoint, and Sunset Park. I especially enjoy visiting these areas on Sunday afternoons when all the industrial businesses are closed offering some of the quietest places you can find in New York City. As beautiful as the brownstone areas of Brooklyn are they tend to be too ornate, cluttered, and crowded for my visual interest.

Once I find a location that visually interest me it becomes a "scene" which I will re-visit looking for things that are new, temporary, or will serve as a backdrop for street photography. As with most my photography I’m searching for urban and vernacular beauty where color and form play important roles.

But most important is how something feels. Not how it makes me feel, but how it "itself" feels. I've always been inspired by the graphic illustrations of 1940's movies and the 1970's color palette and culture which leads me to create photographs with a certain timelessness.
