While completing my graduate degree in Latin America Studies I decided to finish my studies in Lisbon in the fall of 1973. We lived in Lisbon until late March of 1974, days before the revolution. Our return trip kept getting put off while we raised our children (sorta). I retired and resumed taking Portuguese language courses. Wife Mary took an evening course. We went to Portugal for 16 days and found that this unique country was alive and well. Portugal was the first country in Europe, the first democracy, the world's largest and longest-held empire. It is a fascinating place. I have added historical and literary comments along with with my pictures to put the photos into perspective. Enjoy!
