I am retired from the Navy, and like so many late life painters I have taken time to reconnect with the passion of my youth...watercolor. I stand at my easel and draw, contemplate, make faces, stare and put paint to paper - trying to balance design, color, and style into an appealing representation of a local scene.
And on rare occasions I dance!
Yup, I dance when I am lucky enough to watch an amazing event. While I hold my brushes in my hand, sometimes I see them paint the image I am thinking. And things happen on paper I am surprised to see. For when everything is just right, I am a bystander to the whole event that unfolds on the paper before me. And I look at the painting and wonder how the heck I did that!
I paint local scenes with attitude! Some people say they are “WONKY.” I’m told my paintings make the viewer happy. All I know is I paint watercolor and I try to lay it down clean, crisp, with the whites intact so the painting will sparkle.
