In his 28-year career as a graphic designer, an art director and a creative director; Darryl Moland has held art director jobs at several regional and national magazines including Southern Living magazine, Cooking Light magazine and Atlanta magazine; as well as a post as the publications creative director at Emory University in Atlanta. Working in the field of magazine design most of his career, editorial design is in his blood. However, he is currently working a day job as a graphic design contractor at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, which puts him in a position not unlike Julie of the movie Julie and Julia. He works a government job by day and blogs by night, working his way through his ornament collection, notes and photography he's compiled (instead of cooking his way through Mastering the Art of French Cooking). The resulting book, The Decorated Tree is infused with the soulful memory of the people who taught him about the magic of the holidays.
