The layout is simple: with the exception of the first and last lone images, pairs face each other, each image floating in an inch of black space. No blabla inside the book, except for the detailed contents page, at the end. Jacket flap follows:

Front flap:

MICHAL DANIEL czechoslovakia in transition

Dedicated to my parents.

I was born in Prague. In 1969 we left for the US.

In 1990 and 1991 I returned home on trips funded in part by a Photography Fellowship Travel Grant from McKnight Foundation.

The Velvet Revolution was the beginning of the velvet end of Czechoslovakia. By 1990 and 1991, Czechoslovakia's transition -- from communism to subsequent peaceful split into Czech Republic and Slovakia -- was well on the way.

In this book you see what I saw, traveling from coal mines to grave yards -- with beer halls in between -- recording this transition.

Back flap:

Originally exhibited at Film In The Cities, St. Paul, Minnesota, 1991, the contents of this book comprise a catalog of the traveling show of 16x20 inch black and white silver halide and color c-prints, exhibited most prominently during President Clinton's first inauguration celebrations week of January 17-29, 1993, in the Cannon House Rotunda, Washington, D.C.

New Prague, Minnesota, 09/23/1990.

In case you wondered, I take home $20 for each book sold, Blurb gets the rest. Thanks!

Problems, comments, drop me a line, my email address is in the book.

Michal Daniel
Michal Minneapolis, Wolf Lake, New York, Prague, Palupin, Marseilles
Born in Prague, then Czechoslovakia. Left for the US in 1969. Served in the USAF and became photographer after seeing my first 4×5 neg come up in the developer, under a green safelite: military boot stepping on a flower. Corny, I know, but hey, I was instantly in love, forever. Ran my own custom b&w lab in Minneapolis for two decades, taught fine b&w printing, was the first and then exclusive US importer of FOMA film and paper products from the Czech Republic. Always made street photos for myself, now make live entertainment images for a living. More in this TV segment about me:
