"Where will you spend eternity?" consists of a series of color photographs of Utica, NY and its environs. It's about post industrialism, post 9/11 and how small cities and towns struggle to adapt to a fast changing world.
Sylvia de Swaan is a Romanian born photographer who has lived and worked in Mexico, Europe and the United States. She works on long term exploratory projects that are informed by personal history, individual and collective memory and identity, the state of the world and the neighborhood where she lives. Sylvia’s photographs have been exhibited and published internationally and have been awarded grants, residencies and fellowships from Art Matters, The Aaron Siskind Foundation, ArtsLink, Light Work, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art; Austrian Ministry of Culture, Constance Saltonstall Foundation, Anderson Ranch Art Center, the New York Foundation for the Arts and others.
