Rick Hutchinson was the geologist in Yellowstone for nearly 25 years, and became a good family friend. Rick was killed in an avalanche while on backcountry ski patrol during 1997. I wrote a memorial poem then, and have since accumulated photos to compliment the lines of the poem. The book is a tribute both to Rick and to the land he loved, Yellowstone National Park.

I was born in Chicago, but have lived in Idaho for more than 35 years. This has given me the opportunity to explore the mountains and rivers of the American West. Whether hiking, rafting, or touring by car, I have always brought my camera along to capture the scenic wonders along the way.
My home in Idaho Falls gives me the privilege of having Yellowstone National Park as my 'home field'. Yellowstone is a world-class site for both wildlife and geological features. The national park preserves the heart of the Yellowstone country in Wyoming, but the effects of the great Yellowstone volcanic system extend across Idaho and on into Montana. Many of my best photos and favorite memories originate in the greater Yellowstone region, and I hope to share them with as many people as possible.
