RITES OF PRIVACY
Photographs by Tom Contrino, written and performed by David Rhodes
Tom Contrino, a fashion and fine arts photographer working in New York City, became acquainted with David Rhodes work through their professional association on several commercial projects. Impressed after seeing David perform "Rites of Privacy", Tom proposed creating a photographic document, along with the dialogue of the characters which would capture each ones unique transition. These photographs are the result of that collaboration.
David Rhodes began developing what would later become "Rites of Privacy" in an acting class in 2005. His concept was to create several diverse and unique characters who divulge deeply suppressed secrets, alternating them with candid stories about his personal experience. David was intrigued by the notion of confession and the relief it affords. Having a strong musical background, he decided to incorporate song and dance into the fabric of the piece, serving as commentary and allegory for the celebration of liberation.
Tom Contrino received his MFA from Pratt Institute and is a fashion and fine arts photographer in NYC. www.contrinophoto.com
