Acerca del libro
Laura W. McClanahan: SPONTANEOUS GENERATION, describes the following two bodies of work and their various series. Photo Cells are made to represent new life forms that spontaneously emerge from the illumination of glass. Their shadows and interior structures are revealed and printed onto the light sensitive paper. Each time I use a darkroom to make a new series the event creates a new generation of Photo Cells with its own character, color and glow. Each generation changes from the past as I learn about the process, experiment with additional materials and try new techniques.
Breaking Patterns also has this generative effect, with each series I learn more about how to influence the random nature of the breaking glass and the flow patterns of the liquids. This series instead of representing new life forms represents the feeling of breaking free into a new life. It is more symbolic of transformation of the spirit and a spontaneous break into a new reality.
