My name is Jeremy Dennis and I am a Shinnecock and Hassanamisco-Nipmuc tribal member. I live on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in New York. I graduated with a BA from Stony Brook University and currently completing my MFA in photography at Pennsylvania State University. My work and photography is themed around my identity as an American Indian growing up on a reservation. It began in undergrad, when I was experimenting with intaglio and dry point printmaking techniques. Although these unique printmaking mediums had a desirable element of multiples, I felt like the process was unnecessarily time consuming. Through presenting and creating this work, I felt my audience and I shared a mutual value and interest in it, so I continued this theme in photography, because I feel like photography has the power of bringing these stories to life, but it also references our associations with Native American culture and how we generally receive this information.
