I came to the idea of making the present book after having attended a Burlesque Show in Germany. The genre which I untill then only knew from movies or pictures of Dita von Teese bedazzled me so much that I decided to do a photo coverage about it some day.
Circus, theater or cabaret to me have ever been somehow mystical because there, I often had the feeling to be able to immerge into a very distinct and also alien world. I therefore was always
interested in what happens behind the scenes and who is hiding behind the glittering costumes.
With this book, I fullfilled a personal dream. The subtitle “One Day in the Life of the Burlesque Circus” implies the assumption that such a circus has a life of its own. I was able to share one day of this life on which I looked behind the scenery and followed the team of the show from the very beginning of construction work in jeans and sweater up to the metamorphosis to the erotic,
enigmatic creatures of the night.
One day is a very short period of time as I had to realize. But I still hope that the contemplator of this book can catch something of the atmosphere of a performance developping on stage and behind through my pictures.
