Acerca del libro
The project Traces of Time | Water Rose (Spor af Tid | Vandrosen) is based on the island Koltur, which is a part of the Faroe Islands situated in the North Atlantic Ocean, between Iceland and Norway.
The Faroe Islands are part of the North Atlantic basalt plateau reaching from Northern Ireland to Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland. This basalt plateau has settled through the last 50 million years and has eroded into 18 islands, with a landscape that varies from beautiful deep valleys to steep dramatic cliffs. There are 50.000 inhabitants on these independent and isolated islands, who have their own customs and culture.
British soldiers, who invaded the islands during World War II, called the islands “The Land of maybe” which refers to the ever changeable weather that features life and nature of the islands. A magnificent nature with eroded cliffs and mountains bear witness to origin and history.
The project intertwines the geological and cultural history, and thus heralds the future. Selected geological processes are used as designing instruments, which in a parametric way, by using Rhino and Grasshopper, goes on creating forms that inscribe themselves into the magnificent landscape of the island Koltur - like a group of oblong ungrounded stones in the grass-covered ground.
The book is a collection of photos and maps of the Island Koltur.
