Our Wedding Story
This journey began with a trip to Europe. Within a week, our passports, all of our luggage and the “surprise” engagement ring were stolen. By the end of the next week, we were happily engaged with a borrowed suit and dress in front of dozens of people in St. Stephens Cathedral, Vienna.
The journey, so far, was out of the ordinary.
Talk of the wedding began. We set a date and shared aspects of weddings we liked and discussed priorities. Our conclusion: the wedding would bring our closest family and friends together in one place and we wanted to spend as much time with them as possible.
Since the ones we love live all over the globe (e.g. USA, Australia, Russia, Austria, Switzerland, Poland) we were excited to look for a destination wedding. After a long search of a world map we chose our destination. Costa Rica is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places on earth to vacation in. With beaches, rainforests, an active volcano, cloud forest, raging rivers, reef, caves, natural hot springs, an abundance of rare animals and fauna, we knew that all our family and friends would find activities to enjoy. The best part – none of us had ever set foot on this paradise.
After searching for a short period of time we discovered our ideal base of operations, Manuel Antonio. Soon we were choosing between million dollar mansions to rent for a week. Casa Fantastica, our choice, stood out because it fit all of us, a chef and housekeeping staff were included, it featured a movie theatre, gym and games room, and the beach where we would get married was just 5 minutes below.
The wedding was beautiful. The atmosphere was lighthearted and sounds of laughter were swallowed by crashing waves. We read vows we had written for each other, which brought tears of laughter and emotion to many eyes.
Our unconventional journey, we sealed with a kiss.
All of this, together with the support of our families, friends, a talented wedding coordinator and Casa Fantastica staff, created fond memories that will last our lifetimes. Surrounding ourselves with loved ones for a whole week is what made this wedding celebration special. In fact, everyone liked it so much they suggested we get married every year…not a bad idea…keep your eyes open for an anniversary invitation.
Oh yeah, after spending the best week together with everyone, Derek and I took off on our honeymoon.
That’s another book – not for the coffee table.
