The intensity, excitement and emotions of the 2008 NCAA Division ll Elite Eight were captured with more than 400 photographs spanning the entire trip in Kearney, Neb., made by the Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team in a book called "Champions!".
The NKU Norse, having received only one vote in the regular-season poll, proceeded to win their final six games of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional and the Elite Eight to capture their second NCAA Division ll national championship in the last nine years.
In the championship game against South Dakota, NKU found itself trailing by 12 points with 14:58 remaining in the game. The Norse were still behind by 9 points with 5:52 left on the clock, but they shut down the South Dakota Coyotes with tenacious defense, and clutch shooting to pull ahead in the final two minutes to capture the national championship.
