‘Joining the ends’ is a creative response to the critically acclaimed site-specific theatrical show ‘The Mill- City of Dreams’ produced by Freedom Studios.
“When I leave school, can I work in a shop? “ She said “You’re going in the mill where they’ve all gone.”
Left alone, with the keys to a disused mill, Frank wanders through the empty mill spaces with only his memories and ghosts of the past for company. In his 65 years, he has seen the mill go from boom to bust. He has seen his friends disperse and the city change.
Now whose dreams will come to fill this once great building?
‘Joining the ends’ documents the creative process in realising ‘The Mill- City of Dreams’ and is filled with exhilarating photographs taken of the final show and the stimuli and musings of the creative team that informed what would become a transformative experience for both audiences and a city alike.
‘Joining the ends’ is testament to the imagination that can transform forgotten spaces in our cityscapes.
The production 'The Mill - City of Dreams' was a Freedom Studios co-production with imove - a Cultural Olympiad programme in Yorkshire. imove is primarily funded by Legacy Trust UK, an independent charity set up to create a cultural and sporting legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“This beautifully presented promenade piece in a vast Victorian mill building asks, pertinently, where this country is going next.” ****
