Every trip, every place, every experience is defined by our fleeting, highly subjective impressions. India leaves itself wide open to interpretation, offering an unparalleled diversity of experiences if one explores with an open mind and eye.
My photographs reflect what I learned to be the defining nature of my experiences in India: my interactions with and observations of people. Escaping from people is impossible. The locals' intense curiosity, high level of interest and amazing openness to approach, ask questions and have their pictures taken with and by you makes it impossible to be alone in India. Seemingly every day and moment was spent in active conversation or observation. These images capture my moments of peace, my fleeting opportunities to observe rather than be observed.
