BluePrintForLife ( ) offers dynamic, culturally appropriate programs designed for First Nations and Inuit youth that are founded on HipHop, rooted in traditional culture, and centered around community needs.

The “Social Work through Hiphop” program consists of an intensive 5 day workshop that often becomes the school curriculum for the entire week in remote Arctic communities. HipHop is used as a powerful engagement tool to deal with complex issues such as family violence, sexual abuse, anger management, drugs and alcohol and suicide. Our programs explore the positive elements of HipHop while providing youth with a survival toolkit, which celebrates traditional cultural values and provides important leadership skills. The approach is appealing to youth, and community focused.

“Social Work Through HipHop” has presently impacted approximately 3000 youth in over 45 projects carried out in First Nations and Inuit communities. The demand for the program is immense and the benefit is not only heard in the voices of the youth themselves, but from elders, teachers, law enforcement agencies, government officials, public health and social workers. Various documentaries have been produced on the projects that have been described by northern politicians as "the most substantial youth engagement in 20 years". The work has also been recognized by the former Governor General of Canada as compelling and important. BluePrintForLife was recently presented an award from Canada’s former Governor General (Michaelle Jean) for outstanding achievement and outreach and BluePrintForLife is often talked about in her international speaking engagements. In November of 2010 BluePrintForLife was the first organization from North America to ever be profiled as a top finalist in the world’s most prestigious award for outreach through the arts. The “Freedom to Create” awards receive thousands of applications every year and BluePrintForLife is honored to be recognized internationally. BluePrintForLife has collaborated with various Government organizations in Nunavut, Nunavik, First Nations Bands, and a variety of federal programs in Canada such as Suicide and Crime Prevention.

Afrika Bambaataa is an American DJ from the South Bronx, New York ,who was instrumental in the early development of hip hop. Afrika Bambaataa is one of the three originators of break-beat deejaying, and is respectfully known as the "Grandfather" and the Amen Ra of Universal Hip Hop Culture.

We are blessed to have Bam, endorse our book and work !

"Bambaataa says your book represents the essence and spirit of Hip Hop and that your book is magical. He wants a signed copy and wants the world to see it. "

Seldom do I pick up a book and find myself unable or unwilling to put it down.  Not very often do I e-mail my entire mailing list and even call my friends to rave about a book.  Very rarely do I see a book, especially a photo book that totally makes me forget everything else around me, makes me smile, laugh and even holler out "damn how did they get those shots".

"Arctic Hip Hop" is such a book! Fresh, warm, funny and every page is filled with energy and love as well as respect for it's subjects.  Don't take my word for it check it out for yourself, I promise you will not be able to put it down. And if you think you are tired of Hip Hop and have seen, heard and read it all then this book is for you.  If you know nothing about Hip hop or Native people "Arctic Hip Hop" is a wonderful place to start to open your mind and put a smile on your face.
