I was sitting on a bench facing Lake Thoreau in Reston, Va. My God Son, J.B., sat next to me. Sunset was near and I was waiting for the sun to begin dropping behind some townhouses. I looked at the bench and became aware of the slats and the spaces between them. I moved behind the bench and pointed my camera towards the lake and the reflected sun. The spaces between the slats were small, acting somewhat like pinhole cameras - light diffused and often darkened - colors changed and often brightened
I was a historian and social science researcher for the U.S. Federal Government and wrote books and articles on environmental topics. I am also the author of "Rhythm Vision" and "Oozing the Moon".
