Steven Kendall
skendall
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
cabinetmaker by trade and photographer by design. As a cabinetmaker, Kendall focuses his energy on designing and manufacturing furniture for a more meaningful material culture – often incorporating cast-off materials or rejuvenating vintage materials to incorporate sustainable practices in his designs.
As a photographer, the same principles apply. Being socially, economically, and politically conscious while documenting unfamiliar countries and cultures helps Kendall to create and capture an intimate, perceptive, and meaningful photograph. This relationship between the photographer, his camera and subject does not stop at the release of the shutter. For the principles of sustainability to be present in his photographs this relationship must be part of a continuum. Kendall has chosen the Cambodian Land Mine Museum Relief Fund to be the primary beneficiary of this book.
