Then insight gained by the national parks was not lost on the national forests or on the state parks or county lands either. Heritage is heritage..be it sanctioned by a national authority or a state or local one. We as a nation should just be fortunate that it is being preserved.
Without the foresight of preservation, so much of we deem as important as a culture...the artifacts of our history, the beauty of our land will be lost.

I Live in New Jersey & am involved with Basset Hound rescue..specifically Mid Atlantic basset Hound rescue. I am a retired Park Ranger with the National Park Service. Most of my career was spent at the Statue of Liberty National Monument/Ellis island Immigration Museum, but I also was posted at Fire Island Nat'l Seashore, Manhattan Sites, Gateway NRA & Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore. I graduated from Hope College, in 1980. I enjoy visiting national parks & civil war battlefields (aka cannon ball parks)..always wanted to work at Gettysburg & Antietem, love hearing the ghost stories & can tell some wicked ones myself . Enjoy nothing better than a great winter's day on the beach or a perfect fall hike in the woods with the dogs (okay my bassets don't enjoy the beach). I can make history funny for you..& tell a story that will have you rolling on the floor...because I love watching people. Dogs helped heal me so I rescue to help heal dogs. and that about sums it up!
