Acerca del libro
For a year I went on a search for Utopia. A wonderful place, where everything is perfect, a Paradise. I started visiting places who pretend to be something like that: from a sandwich-bar named 'Utopia', to subtropical swimming paradises. What I found was not Utopia, it was an attempt to be that place, that inevitably failed. A plastic substitute. For that is also what a utopia is; unreachable. I started seeing artefacts and ruins of utopia outside these places. It seems people try to install them everywhere. But the contrast of those utopian elements against our reality shows our failure even more. A sense of loneliness overwhelms me. A mirror forms itself, showing what we long for, and what our paradise must look like.
This book is a visual report of that journey. I tried to give it the same pace as how the year went. At first I started just documenting the whole trip, but slowly started to zoom in more on this utopian artefacts I found everywhere. You will see that the story builds up like that. The pace was very important, so some of the full page photo's are more important to the story, then to being a work strong enough to stand on its own. Boats, hallways, stairs try to lead you trough the story, ass well as literally giving a certain depth to pages. At the end you will find a small extra chapter, a tribute/contribution to what I found out the past year.
