Master Performance Artist Kira Seamon grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii and was fortunate to have been immersed in the Asian cultures flourishing there. Endless opportunities to experience the sights, sounds and images of these cultures provided a rich store of knowledge about the customs unique to them. Using this background, Ms. Seamon created an original and very respectful dance performance tracing the subject of Chinese footbinding from its proposed origins in the Royal Court of China through to the abolition of the custom.
Now, for the first time, beautiful behind-the-scenes photos capture the making of this impressive dance performed at Mobius in Boston's historic South End! Mobius has produced hundreds of original works that have attained critical acclaim in Boston, nationally and internationally. Mobius has been recognized as one of the seminal, alternative, artist-run organizations in the US. (Mobius history found on Wikipedia)
