Acerca del libro
My father, Irving Sills, passed away in 1990. I recently stumbled upon an envelope of photos that I had never seen before and did not know existed.
My father never spoke of his time in World War II. All I knew was that he was a Lieutenant (known as Irving Silverstein then) and had fought in the Battle of the Bulge as a reinforcement to the 101st Infantry, 26th Division, the "Yankee Division". From the History of the 101st Infantry, "On the 13th of November 1944, the Regiment received added strength in the persons of 759 reinforcements." Quite possibly he was in that group. I was also aware that he was wounded and received a Purple Heart, which I also found among his things.
Most of the photos are annotated; some with place names and others with dates. Using histories of the Battle and this Division, I have tried to place them in this book in chronological order.
These photos are a legacy to me and tell a story that he was never able to.
