"Pain is important" is the sixth book by azt and collects more than 300 self-portraits from 2006 to 2010.
From the preface by Peter Weiermair:
"Formally, AZT breaks new ground with this book as he now, not merely directs the dialog of images and the precisely calculated sequence, but also, superimposes and thus boosts its inherent obsessive character. His oeuvre's sole protagonist, subject as well as object, is AZT himself. With this book, he closes the most difficult stage in a painful process of searching for an identity that has lasted several years. (...) This staged otherness is part of the overall stance of an artist who has created some of the most exciting, most irritating images in the field of the contemporary portrayal of the male nude."
The book includes explicit nude contents suggested for an adult (18+) audience.
