Jennifer Flanders Van der Hoek was born and raised in Elk Point, Alberta.

She attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree with an English major and a Religious Studies minor.

A lover of learning, Jennifer has worked at a variety of post-secondary institutions, including Lakeland College and Red Deer College. She currently works for an oil company.

When not working or writing, Jennifer enjoys painting, quilting, and photography. An avid hockey fan, she always enjoys watching a game with her husband Mike and their dog Kacey, a mixed-breed "rescue".
