This account covers the years of the 1940’s when our family lived on Tekapo Station and in Fairlie in the Mackenzie Country of New Zealand, and much later at Windy Ridge. It was written by my late Aunti Mary, but the experience would be akin to many others’ of that era.

“When I think back to Tekapo in the 1940’s I see colours. The clear blue of a summer sky above blue, purple or grey mountains capped with the blush of sunset on snowy peaks. The turquoise blue of Lake Tekapo surrounded by golden tussock rippling in the wind or cradled in glistening white winter snow. Clear winter nights as bright as day when the billowing, snow-blanketed earth was silvered under a full moon, or when fiery stars blazed above the snow. Nights when the shimmering colours of the Aurora Australis swirled in the sky.”
