The Light and Black I Am
reflections in poetic expressions on love, life, and somethings in between.
de Denise Antoinette Simpson
The Light & Black I Am is a collection of poetic reflections that are anchored on the writer’s love for the “light” or wisdom found in the Word of God. It is from this source that the writer is inspired to create the pieces presented in this book and arrange them into three broad categories including spiritual and social legacy; soul connections; and joining together: the journey of love.
Themes reflected include societal issues such as prejudice, violence, and freedom from mental slavery; personal issues as it relates to self acceptance, brotherly love and family. Also, the process of attraction, becoming one and sustaining the love in intimate relationships, is featured.
There is a discussion segment at the back of the book that invites readers to use the questions from selected poems as a talking point for personal reflection, family discussions, or educational/training exercises.
