Badlands are strange, fantastical places where the mind can ponder how the never-ending work of the forces of nature can so thoroughly transform flat prairieland.
For Canadian photographer Frank King, these forces set his compositional imagination free to create a powerful portfolio of Dinosaur Provincial Park, which he considers to be the prime badlands in the southern half of the Canadian province of Alberta.
From weird, stringy vegetation to eye-popping landforms and soap opera skies, Frank has wandered far and wide over the park to capture its most impressive and intimate features.
He particularly enjoys visiting after a fresh winter snowfall, when landforms become mystical shapes that few people have ever seen before.
Frank's other self-published books include Ireland: Visions of Light, Illuminations and the Seasons of Light series: Greenwood, Southern Ontario and Alberta.

The Alberta badlands have long since been a place of great fascination for me. I have visited Drumheller and Dinosaur twice and Writing-On-Stone once (the former two in poor weather one time each) and I always wished I could have more time to thoroughly explore and photograph, particularly in winter. I really enjoyed previewing this book. There are so many inspiring and stunning images. Some of the formations I recognized.
You have made a beautiful work here.
