Maria Hayes has shown work in galleries and at live events across the UK since 1986. The majority of her work is two dimensional, using a variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media and more recently, film. Hayes finds inspiration in the natural world, the human form, music, dance and storytelling. “I have explored in depth the connection between the drawn line and the figure in motion and have developed a form of live “action painting” in collaboration with dancer/choreographers and other performers.” Hayes combines this practice with education and training work in schools, galleries and Higher Education institutions across Wales and the UK. She is regularly commissioned to devise and deliver workshops and longer courses in arts and gallery education. Hayes is currently engaged in a practice based PhD (Fine Art) at Aberystwyth University. Hayes’s work is in private and public collections nationally and internationally.
