Acerca del libro
It is with humble amazement and thanks to God that I present this book documenting seven years of my gardening and photography. My passion for flowers began with my paternal grandmother, Florence Peterson, who taught me about Jesus and sparked my love of flowers, particularly roses and tulips. I still have a first place ribbon that I won showing her Tropicana roses at my elementary school's flower show in 1970.
I started gardening seriously 10 years ago at the prompting of my dear husband, ending up with 50 rose bushes of several varieties, one large bed of perennials, and lots of spring bulbs. English Paper Company began in 2003 to feature my garden photography on note cards and in matted and framed enlargements.
Each fall I planted 200 tulips across the front of our yard and anywhere else I could find space. Every April, when the tulips appeared, I photographed them frantically for one week before they faded. The rose photography was much more relaxed. It began in May and sometimes continued through the first week of November if we had a warm Kansas fall. As a photographer,
I relished the early morning sun and the precious few overcast days.
Each year brought its own challenges and successes. It is never easy to work out of one's home with three children, though now I realize that some of my creative bursts were born out of watching my children create, whether it was in art or music. My children's playhouse, built by my father and husband, was a faithful back drop for many of my photographs. I hope these colorful images bring joy to your hearts and inspiration to your gardens!
