Acerca del libro
Art is the interpretation of our surrounding world and the desire to capture and share the moments that touch us.
Photography is no different. Photography is more than just a snap shot of the world as it was. It is more than simple replication. Instead, at its basis, it is the pursuit to show the world as it IS. The goal is to not only freeze that moment in time, but also to convey the hidden subtext and the subtlety of existence that makes life worth living.
It is why I take such pains to compose, frame, and process an image. It is why I take dozens of shots of the same scene and then go through each one meticulously until I find the version that says, “I’m the one.” Sometimes, many times, despite all this effort, that version isn’t there. Often I have to make do with something good, rather than something great. However, that does not stop me from trying in the future to capture that greatness.
It is the pursuit of this intangible, the pursuit of an image that can speak without compromise to the viewer that drives a me as a photographer. I have a need to evoke an emotion. That emotion can be anything from the calm of a sunset, the simultaneous wonder and disconcerting effect of urban sprawl, or even the desire to anamorphize, and possibly even relate to, the look in an animal’s eyes.
This pursuit is a lifetime endeavor and I feel fortunate to be on this path, as well as being in a position to share my journey with you.
I hope that there are a couple images that give you pause as you look through this book. More than that, I hope that these images reveal to you the same inspiration and wonder for this world that drove me to capture them.
