About the Author
I have written short stories and plays for children to perform but this is my first published work. The book, which is a biography of my grandfather, has been written in collaboration with other family members.
The Book
Born in 1886, the eldest of nine children, George Ashley served in the 2/4th Battalion of the York & Lancaster Regiment from 1914 to 1919. The story tells of the Battalion's early training in different camps and follows them to France where they saw action on the Western Front. Postcards exchanged with the family during these years are included as are photographs of relatives and friends who saw wartime service. George's family and working life in the post war years and his voluntary association with the St Johns' Ambulance Brigade including service, with them, during the Second World War are recorded. The book features 173 images from a private family collection.
