Visit Southern Sudan with Robert Klitgaard, one of the world's leading experts in international development. Like the author's award-winning "Tropical Gangsters" (Basic Books), "The Elephant Is Peace and Freedom" is at once a travel book, a development text, and an introduction to one of the poorest places on the planet. And "The Elephant" has breathtaking photos as well.
All profits from this book will be donated to non-governmental organizations working with children in Southern Sudan.
Robert Klitgaard is a University Professor at Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, CA, where he served as President from 2005 to 2009. His nine books include "Controlling Corruption" and "Tropical Gangsters," which was named by the New York Times as one of the six best nonfiction books of 1990 and one of its "Books of the Century." "Tropical Gangsters II" appeared in 2013. Formerly a professor at Harvard and Yale and Dean of the Pardee RAND Graduate School, he has been an adviser and researcher in more than 30 countries around the world. He and his wife Elaine van Biljon Klitgaard have four children.
